The reaction of the Mcdonald's chain to recent newspaper
stories has been quick and effective. The articles
accused Mcdonald's and other fast food chains of using
Central American beef to make their hamburgers for the
USA. As a result, according to the articles, vast tracts
of rainforest have been cleared to make way for cattle
ranches. We all know how important the rainforest is to
the world's ecological balance, and Mcdonald's is, not
surprisingly, very sensitive to this criticism. They have
been running an advertising campaign on television and in
magazines, and they are giving away leaflets called Mcfact
Cards in each of their branches. They say that their
restaurants use a hundred per cent beef from the country
or the region where the restaurants are.
